Delaware’s Sports Betting Stumbles, Online Gaming Thrives
Delaware’s sports betting handle experienced a significant drop in May, reaching a nine-month low. The total handle for sports betting was $2.8 million, marking a 45.1% decrease compared to the same month in 2022 and a 17.7% decline from April this year.
Revenue from sports betting also suffered, with a year-on-year decrease of 50% and a 34.5% drop from April. Delaware Park emerged as the leading operator, generating $112,768 in revenue from $1.3 million in wagers. Bally’s Dover followed with $68,221 from $740,564 in bets, and Harrington Raceway recorded $33,500 in revenue from $377,031.
On the other hand, Delaware’s online gaming fared better, with a handle of $44.2 million in May, showing a 38.6% year-on-year increase and an 11.9% rise from April. The table games segment accounted for $17.5 million in wagers, while video lottery games attracted $26.6 million.
Revenue from online gaming reached $1.2 million, representing a 9.1% year-on-year increase, although it experienced a 7.7% decline from April. Video lottery games contributed $976,880 to the total revenue, while table games accounted for $216,554, and poker rake and fees amounted to $38,318.
Delaware Park led the online gaming revenue race with $509,183 generated from $18 million in bets. Bally’s Dover followed closely with $381,383 in revenue from $13.5 million in wagers, and Harrington Raceway recorded $341,185 in revenue from $12.7 million.
Overall, while Delaware’s sports betting handle saw a decline in May, the online gaming sector continued to show strength, recording significant year-on-year growth and maintaining steady revenue figures.
