Mississippi Sports Betting Handle Decreases, Choctaw Breaks Ground on New Casino
Mississippi’s sports betting handle was $26.8m in May, down 8.2% from May 2022. Revenue reached $3.2m, up 52.4% from the same month last year but 25.6% lower than April 2022. Coastal casinos reported revenue of $1.3m, while central casino venues amounted to $1.2m. Northern casinos generated $623,433. Basketball was the most popular sport among Mississippi bettors, with $10.2m in bets.
In other news, Choctaw Resort Development Enterprise has broken ground on a new $25m travel plaza in Louisville, Mississippi, with a target opening of Summer 2024. The facility will have 150 slot machines, a sportsbook lounge, retail space, a restaurant and fueling stations.
